Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy – Let’s Go Camping

My daughter has nagged me for months to buy her the Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy. I was not convinced but then we found it on special at a shop and I bought it for her. The only regret I had is that I didn’t buy it earlier.

If you do not find the Sylvanian Families Caravan in your area, you may as well look for Calico Critters Caravan. Calico Critters is also another name used for the Sylvanian Families toys. So in this post I will use Sylvanian families or Calico Critters indistinctly.

Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy –  Calico Critters  Caravan

This caravan set is the perfect gift for any girls aged 3 to 12. Let me reassure that there are lots of adults collecting the Sylvanian Families toys. I would not recommend this set for girls  under 3 as there are lots of small pieces. But you can always buy it and put away the small pieces and let the child play with the larger pieces. It was certainly a nice gift idea for an 8 year old girl.

My daughter is 8 and she still enjoys playing with it. I wish I had bought this Calico Critters caravan camper earlier.

There are other caravan toys in the market, but I am not familiar with them.  I might review them later, but I love this one because is part of the  Calico Critters set which Maylla is collecting.

Let me describe this camper because it is really like a doll house. And many kids use this as a doll house as well.

The caravan sets comes with over 35 pieces, and some of them are very small. So before giving the Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy to your child make sure that she doesn’t normally take staff into her/his mouth.

How big is the Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy?

Calico Critters Caravan Camper

The Sylvanian Family Caravan or Calico Critters Caravan is 10 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 7 inches tall (measuring from the wheels to the top of the caravan). It is large enough for the critters to fit in, and it also sleeps at least 4, but it can fit up to 5 critters.

This caravan set will provide hours of entertainment to your child. It is limited to your imagination. It would be better if you use critters to play with, but you can also use any doll or creature you may have, like you could easily use Littlest Pet shops to play with or any character you may already have.

This caravan is quite big and comfortable. I would say that it is as big and as comfortable as the Calico Critters Cozy Cottage.

How Can You Pull the Sylvanian Families Caravan Camper?

You can pull the Sylvanian Families Caravan Camper with any of the Sylvanian Families Vehicles.  The Caravan comes  with a hitch that you connect over the registration plate in the vehicle and it hooks up with the caravan.
It definitely can be hooked up with the Calico Critters 7 seater vehicle, with the Calico Critters Cherry Cruiser and with the Sylvanian Family Family Saloon Car.

We do not own the convertible car vehicle so I am not sure if you can hook the caravan to the convertible car or the wedding car. I think you cannot connect it to the wedding car.

How Many Doors Does The Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy Have?

The Sylvanian Families Caravan toy has a main door, which is a normal size door.  The door is quite high, so when the caravan is stationary, you can hook  a  doorstep, so that small critters can climb in and out of the caravan.

Once the caravan is stationary you can also open the side where the kitchen is. This will work during the day, but the critters should close it at night for privacy and to keep intruders out of the Family caravan.  It is a nice opening which increases the  space. You should actually open this side, during the day to cook breakfast, or any meals, and to eat it . Maylla loves that you can open the side and it feels like a real caravan.

You can also open the rood. You actually have to  open the roof because the bunk beds hook on the caravan ceiling.  It makes the toy caravan more spacious.    You do not need to unhook the bunk beds to close the caravan, but you will need to remove the sleeping bags.

What’s in the Sylvanian Family Caravan Toy?

The Sylvanian Family Caravan Toy is more real that you can imagine. It is really like a real caravan. It comes with a Bathroom, with a toilet seat, a basin and a shower.

The basin is quite small, but anyway we are in a caravan, not in a house. It also has a towel rail.

The shower is actually quite big. It does not come with a shower curtain but it has the edge of the shower to prevent the water running through the caravan. It comes with a hand shower that you can hook on one of the walls to use as a head shower

Notice the windows on the image. The Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy  has lots of windows openings, but there s no actual window except for two skylights in the rood.  Windows allow lots of air and light into the caravan.

The toilet seat is quite cute. As you know the caravan camper has minimal space, so they designed the toilet in such a way that you can fold it and put it away when not in use. This makes more space for the bathroom. Behind the toilet there is a swinging panel. You can push the toilet through there to put it away.

There is a mirror on top of the toilet. And there is a toilet roll holder and a toilet roll that comes with the caravan.

The Calico Critters caravan family camper includes a floor mat for the bathroom. There isn’t a door to the bathroom.

What’s in the Lounge/Bedroom of the Calico Critters Family Caravan Camper?

The lounge of the Calico Critters Family Caravan camper is  also the main bedroom and it takes approximately half of the space of the caravan.  There is a red sofa/bed that can be folded when not sleeping and can be unfolded to sleep in.

The bed can fit two to three critters depending on the direction they sleep.

The main door of the caravan leads to the lounge bedroom.

There is also a desk with two drawers where you can put things like maps, books or even a computer. But of course there is no TV, or electricity, That desk can be used also to eat or write.

The Sylvanian Family caravan camper comes with a picture that you can stick over the desk.

There are two bunk beds that you can hook on the roof, And you don’t need to unhook them to close the roof. It is actually quite neat. There is no ladder to climb into those bunk beds, so Maylla uses her imagination to get  the Critters climbing into bed.

Does the Calico Critters Caravan Have Windows?

The Calico Critters Caravan comes with lots of Widows openings. around the caravan, but they don’t have an actual window or plastic. Anyone can put their hands through the windows openings.

The windows openings are great because they allow lots fresh air and light into the caravan.

It has two openings on the kitchen side, four on the bathroom side, and four in the bedroom side.

There are two additional windows in the roof, and those have an actual window, made out of good plastic.

It seems like Calico Critters love windows and sunshine. Who doesn’t. You can see that the Calico Critters starter home also has lots of windows to let air in.

Does the Sylvanian Family Caravan have storage space?

The Sylvanian Family Caravan has lots of storage space. I am really surprised and delighted to see they made it as real as possible. There isn’t a cupboard for clothes. but you could use the desk drawers to store clothes.

So, as you guessed it,  there is a desk with two drawers.

There is a storage space between the Kitchen and the bathroom. It is an underfloor storage space, where you can keep the steps to the main door, and some game boards that come with the Family caravan set.

There is  more storage in the kitchen. The kitchen has two drawers where you can store some of the utensils that come with the caravan set. There is also a table or Board that you can fold back and you can  store things in there.

The stove can open,  and you can store a baking tray in there as well

How does the Calico Critters Family Caravan Kitchen Look Like?

The Sylvanian Families Caravan Toy Kitchen is actually quite cute. They have really put lots of details in. They made it feel real.

Maylla is very pleased with it and I saw her playing often with it.

The kitchen has a stove with oven, a sink, a counter where you can put the dishes to drain, and you can prepare your meals.

It also has two drawers and a cupboard with a breakfast bar or an ironing table and some space to store groceries.

They have added some nice details like a clock on the kitchen wall, and two hooks where you can hook the spatulas and spoons.  The cutest thing is the Note board that sticks to the wall.

There are no critters or any family  included in the Caravan set. We got our Calico Critters Families separately.
